The Altar Guild is the “backstage crew” at Trinity Church. We set the stage, make sure the costumes and props are all in place and then clean up afterwards. Led by a long-time director, the Guild consists of four teams, each responsible for one weekend per month. The number of members on each team varies, one team works well with only two people, another may need three or four. Regardless, the work gets done and there are always those willing to step in at the last minute to ensure all goes smoothly.
“Setting the stage” means we change the altar colors and the priest’s vestments according to the church season, fill the candles, polish the silver, wash the linens, mark the bible for the readers, put the hymn numbers on the hymn board, empty, clean and refill the font, arrange the flowers, and set out the wine and wafers.
Each team is responsible for one weekend per month. Teams meet on a Saturday morning to do the prep work, then prepare the altar before each of the Sunday services, cleaning up after each. Christmas and Easter are especially busy times, with all the extra services, so it’s “all hands on deck” to make sure everything is taken care of.
We are always looking for people (we’re co-ed) willing to join our group so if you feel this might be the ministry for you, please contact the Altar Guild Director.
