Las Posadas
This year the Labyrinth Team is hosting a new event. We have moved to December 14 and the theme is Las Posadas. In Mexico and Central America, the posadas re-enact Mary and Joseph’s cold and difficult journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of shelter; in Spanish, the word posadas means “lodging.” The posadas are celebrated for nine days from December 16 to December 24.
For the labyrinth walk we will use the metaphor of walking to shelter by being in spirit with Mary and Joseph. We will walk with our hopes and fears as we hold the mystery of the coming birth.
We will start in the Parish Hall at 6:00 p.m. with a talk by Meredith Reynolds who has been a long term participant in the sister city relationship with Guanajuato. Meredith will share with us religious and cultural celebrations that take place in Mexico around Christmas not only Las Posadas, but also Noche Buena, Navidad, and Dia de Reyes, plus Dia de la Guadalupe. We will have typical Mexican drinks and cookies that are served at Las Posadas.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., we will move out to the labyrinth lit with luminarias and remember the journey of Mary and Joseph. Please invite friends and neighbors to this event. This is an opportunity for outreach.
